The Determination Experiments were a series of experiments carried out by Undyne and PAPYRUS three years prior to the events of Inverted Fate.

Five or six years prior to the events of the story, Undyne had discovered the ability to SAVE and LOAD after almost dying while building the holo-sky in Snowdin.[1] Two years after that, Undyne had asked Toriel for the human souls in order to run experiments on them and find an alternate solution to breaking the barrier.[2] During these experiments, Papyrus and Undyne had assumedly extracted determination from the souls. The two of them had injected determination into multiple subjects, including monsters who had fallen down, such as Snowdrake's mother and Shyren's sister[3][4], a golden flower[5][6] and Undyne herself[7][8][9].
