You know, this kindness. It's making me feel something after all.

I don't know for sure... but Anger hasn't gotten me ANY closer to being corporeal.
So maybe I DO need to try something new.

Mad Mew Mew, Part 45

Mad Mew Mew is a ghost inhabiting a robotic Mew Mew Kissy Cutie built by Undyne, being her training partner and a close friend of hers. She is also Napstablook and Mettaton's cousin, the latter of whom she has a strained relationship with.

Fomerly known as Mad Dummy while possessing Undyne's training dummy, they serve as a minor antagonist in the Hotland arc and the secondary antagonist of the CORE arc. During the latter, she receives her current body from Undyne, and serves as a boss fight. After the CORE arc, she becomes a supporting character in Inverted Fate.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Mad Dummy form[]

While posessing Undyne's training dummy, they have a red skull with anime-like blonde hair and a green soul headband, red shoulder pads, a 360⁰ metal mouth for a waist and a rocket in the place of legs.

Ghost form[]

As a ghost, they have the tradition bedsheet ghost look with tears at the bottom. They have a red-orange look with spiky hair to go along.

Mad Mew Mew form[]

As Mad Mew Mew, she has a metal skirt, keeping her shoulder pads and red eyes, gets a chestplate with a split-soul symbol on it, and FINALLY gets the legs she wanted, along with with a pair of war boots, long pink hair, cat ears, and a cat tail. Additionally, She is now armed with a cleaver, and gains the "SOUL Fission" ability, allowing her to "split" combined/amalgamted SOULs temporarily.

This is her first and only form that expresses her true gender identity, with her also switching over to she/her pronouns after inhabiting it.

Personality[]

Mad Mew Mew can be impulsive, hot-tempered and loud. Gets angry very easily and tends to hold grudges over very little things (for instance, hearing Chara insult them in Hotland and holding it against them and Frisk all the way through the CORE arc). Some of this anger is maintained on purpose in an attempt to fuse with their robot body (and later, Mad Mew Mew body) through strong emotion, but all they just want is Undyne's attention and approval.

History[]

One day when Undyne finished making her newest invention, a robotic training dummy, a ghost who snuck in earlier possessed it, claiming it was the perfect body for them. Undyne let them have it for the amount passion they had and the fact that a ghost inhibiting a robot would be a better sparring partner than any AI she could ever code.

Battle Of The Ages! The Dummy Strikes Back!

Mad Dummy in the Tournament

Some time later, Mad Dummy overheard Undyne and Alphys watching a Mew Mew Kissy Cutie anime movie, and they got out of their vessel and snuck downstairs as a ghost. They got captivated by its storytelling and Mew Mew herself. When the credits rolled in the anime and Undyne got up to get the next one, Alphys turned over to the ghost and told them that they could borrow the dvd collection if they wanted. Mad Dummy agreed, thus allowing them to explore Mew Mew more.

Main Story[]

Hotland Arc[]

M60lSha

Mad Dummy at Undyne's Lab

Mad Dummy first appears in Part 29 as a seemingly-deactivated robot in Undyne's lab. As Chara brought up the strange sense of familiarity the "Dummybot" evoked, PAPYRUS informed Frisk of the bot's identity as "Undyne's Training Unit", and how they were very efficient and aggressive, much alike Undyne herself. After Frisk gently nudged the dummy and received no response from it, Papyrus mentioned how they were likely asleep, and how it was for the best as meeting them on a bad mood could trap one in "an endless loop of missiles and knives".

Mad Dummy awakens, furious at their insults

They make their first active appearance in Part 32. As Frisk and PAPYRUS arrived at an area containing a Computerized Laser-Safe and the seemingly-inactive Dummy, Frisk questioned how the dummy had made it all the way out there, with Papyrus jokingly suggesting they merely wanted a taste of the cheese locked within the safe, and that perhaps the "ROBO-DUMMY" had been hungry. While Frisk snarkily questions if the dummy had to "pogo" all the way there, Papyrus points out the dummy would've also been able to float all the way there as it was possessed by a ghost, leading Frisk to realize how Mettaton had managed to stay float above the water during their "fight" with him at Waterfall. As Frisk interacted with the SAVE point, Chara made a snarky comment about the Dummy's lack of legs, having to "pogo everywhere like a fool" as a result. Having been listening to the human and their "pretentious partner" insult them the very whole time, Mad Dummy did not take their insults in kind. After all, they were a ghost and thus able to hear Chara, and while Frisk's comments were one thing, what really infuriated them was their partner's. Their eyes glowing with fury, Mad Dummy zoomed off to the next room to show them a piece of their mind.

Immediately after Frisk and Papyrus set foot in the next room, Mad Dummy charged in, accusing the "snobby voice" accompanying Frisk of mocking them for their lack of legs. While Papyrus, oblivious to Frisk's "companion", tried to mediate by mentioning how nobody said that, Mad Dummy furiously pointed out the voice they heard, whispering about DETERMINATION. Unwilling to the let duo get away after the insult, despite Frisk suggesting that they calm down, Mad Dummy decided to attempt to fight the two of them, despite knowing Mettaton was supposed to be the one to do so. But before a battle could be initiated, they are interrupted by RG 03 and RG 04. While Mad Dummy attempted to get them to leave, since it was supposed to be their fight with Frisk and Papyrus since they had insulted them, RG 04 pointed out she represented the "hopes and dreams" of their kingdom and insults the Dummy by calling them a "temperamental toddler in a tin can". Trying to find a retort, Mad Dummy shot back by mentioning how they at least didn't wear pink, "THE LEAST INTIMADTING COLOR". Tiring of the dummy's shenanigans, RG 04 called in RG 03, and mentioned how she and her partner were both professionals and under orders from "Lady Dohj" to apprehend the duo for their trial, and suggested they buzz off unless they wanted to be charged with treason. Snapping back by "insulting" RG 04 for being a cat, Mad Dummy reluctantly agreed to leave, but not before telling Frisk it would not be the last they saw of them. Mad Dummy then zoomed off, leaving Frisk and Papyrus at the mercy of the duo of Royal Guards.

Battle Of The Ages! The Dummy Strikes Back!

Mad Dummy in the Tournament

Soon after, Frisk and PAPYRUS wound up as unwitting participants of Mettaton's next show, an over-the-top anime-themed tournament, one that was sure to be a Battle Of The Ages. As Mettaton welcomed the competitors, Mad Dummy is seen among them, standing in front of the Dog Shrine next to So Sorry and Glyde. While the duo stepped up to the challenge, Mettaton prepared to spout more of his drivel, until he was interrupted by Mad Dummy. Itching to finally get their sweet revenge, they quickly dismissed the robotic star's "fanfare", and launched themself into battle as Undyne, Mettaton and the audience watched. As Frisk and Papyrus faced their first opponent of the tournament, Mad Dummy was delighted to finally get their time in the spotlight, plus some SWEET REVENGE. Soon, the crowds would be cheering for them instead of Mettaton! But despite their hopes, Mad Dummy's time in the tournament would be cut short when a giant snowball containing Jerry smacked into them, sending them flying out of the arena. Once again, Mad Dummy's attempt at revenge was foiled by sheer luck, with their role in the tournament even being replaced by everyone's least favorite monster.

Inverted-Fate Mad-and-Muffet

Mad Dummy and Muffet arguing while Frisk and Papyrus escape

In the aftermath of the tournament, as well Mettaton and Undyne's subsequent pursuit of them, Frisk and Papyrus step outside elevator L3. The remains of a giant snowball lay beside a bakesale table, which Chara described as an "abominable snowpoff", and questioned why it hadn't melted despite Hotland's blazing climate. Upon spotting the duo, Mad Dummy announced their intent to claim their revenge once again, but was quickly stopped by Muffet, who "politely" asked that they buy one of their pastries before leaving. While they tried to refuse, Muffet mentioned how their snowball had frightened the spiders and suggested that they not upset them any further, as more and more of them descended from the ceiling. As they begrudgingly agreed to buy one of her pastries, Mad Dummy noticed the sudden absence of the human and their skeletal friend, as Frisk and Papyrus had took advantage of the argument and went on ahead. While the Dummy was furious at Muffet for letting the duo escape, Muffet pointed out that it wouldn't have come to that if they had simply bought a pastry without making a fuss, to which they swiftly corrected her that they did not "whine", only complain. Disgruntled at the dummy's antics, Muffet simply told them they were lucky their cousin was her employer.

CORE Arc[]

Run, run, RUN!!! An Angry Automaton's Pursuit!

Mad Dummy possessing part of the CORE

As Frisk (and Chara) ventured through the CORE in Part 40, a screen on the wall abruptly flickered to life, revealing the grinning red face of a certain specter. Mad Dummy had possessed that sector of the CORE, and taunted them for falling right into Undyne's trap. Furious at Frisk's sarcastic reply, Mad Dummy questioned if Frisk was mocking them, or even recognized them at all. While Frisk confirmed they'd recognized them, they tried to head on ahead, only to be stopped in place when Mad Dummy unleashed the sector's weaponry upon them. After their first batch of missles and lasers subsided, the Dummy declared since Frisk wouldn't be going anywhere, they would finally get their sweet revenge. As a chase ensued, they launched barrages of missiles and activated lasers, while Frisk dodged their attacks and ran on ahead. Gloating in their success, Mad Dummy declared the whole CORE was theirs to possess, with Frisk snarking to "Cap" that they did need an exorcist after all. In the midst of their chase, Frisk received a transmission from PAPYRUS, where he apologized for having Frisk go on ahead alone into the CORE, while distant robotic screaming from a certain dummy could be heard. After Frisk told him not to blame himself and asked whether he could make it inside the CORE soon, Papyrus mentioned he was trying to break through the forcefield's encoding, while Mad Dummy's protests about their call could be heard in the background. Still, Papyrus brought up some good news - he snuck a new program on their phone the previous night, which could come in handy against four season-themed robots, telling them to make use of their cannon chips before Undyne blocked their signal. Furious at all the interruptions, Mad Dummy unleashed one last volley of missiles and lasers, before Frisk reached a teleporter and escaped in the nick of time. Screaming in rage as their failure, they calmed down and reassured themself that they still had many opportunities for their revenge. After all, they had the whole CORE to possess...

After Frisk ventured through the Ruins-themed Stage of the CORE, they arrived at a resting area with yet another Mettaton-themed vending machine, but with a different pose this time. As Chara noted something was off about it, Frisk pondered if Mettaton merely wanted some variety, to which Chara pointed out the products. They had been replaced by odd bootleg versions that would have detrimental effects if consumed. In truth, Mad Dummy had been the one to hijack the machine and replace its contents, having obtained the bootleg items from a certain salesman while incognito. Glad to have avoided being scammed, Frisk pressed onward.

The Genesis Of Determination- Seasonal Showdown (VS

Attack of the Mad Ghoul Dude

At the final room of the Ruins throwback segment, Frisk encountered the fall-themed android Ghoul Dude, who was then swiftly possessed by Mad Dummy instead, with the android gaining glowing red eyes. Still determined to get their revenge, they fought Frisk as the "Mad Ghoul Dude", reacting with shock when Chara suggested an exorcism. Trying to hide their fear, they mentioned Frisk had nothing to attack them with besides their "gaudy leg". However, they would soon be proven wrong when Frisk pressed a button on their phone, transforming it into an arm cannon to fight back, eliciting a brief expression of shock from Mad Ghoul Dude, before quickly covering it up. As Frisk approached them, they decided to engage, which made them victim to their blaster fire. Despite this, Mad Ghoul Dude cackled to try and mask their fear, until Frisk taunted them with a series of absurd faces, resulting in them letting their guard down in their anger. As Frisk blasted away once more, the Ghoul Dude had sustained enough damage to automatically expel them from it and enter sleep mode, leaving a microchip for Frisk to collect and add to their phone. Having been ejected from the android, Mad Dummy set off to the next themed section of the CORE...

They continue to antagonize Frisk by possessing machines and the Seasonal Dudes.

Near the end of the CORE, Frisk (and Chara) listen to a call between Undyne and Papyrus. But soon, Mad Dummy returned after having fought the duo while possessing the CORE and the Season Dudes, and a chase ensues. After narrowly escaping with the help of a certain dog, they find Mad Dummy blocking the exit door, determined to claim their SOUL for Undyne. As Frisk fights Mad Dummy once more in original dummy form, they fight back using blaster fire. ut as Mad Dummy's body begun to break down, they are approached by Undyne, who offered them a new body of their dreams. Now the sleek, stylish and deadly Mad Mew Mew, she uses her newfound ability to split Frisk's SOUL, revealing Chara's half. The battle continues, and Frisk and and Chara are still not yet used to their situation. This results in their death, and after a reload, they fought Mad Mew Mew once more. Chara apologized for their insult and encouraged Frisk to do the same, convincing her to spare them and end the battle.

New Home & Loose Ends Arc[]

Mad Mew Mew is seen in Part 52 outside Undyne's old house in Forgespring, complaining that she was locked outside of Undyne's lab and she won't answer any of her phone calls. Papyrus reasons with her saying Undyne endured quite a bit but Mad Mew Mew responds asking if isolation's going to help her, and Papyrus responds again saying he and Frisk don't want to overstep.

Later in Part 54, Mad Mew Mew is seen face-palming during Mettaton's performance, and after it, he mentions Undyne while defending Chara, prompting her to leap from the ceiling and interrupt. She berates Mettaton for constantly humiliating and mocking Undyne and broadcasting her fragile state and her hurting Papyrus to the whole underground. Frisk, Papyrus and Mettaton all argue with her saying Undyne was reckless, took it too far, and the results of her running away were that nobody got hurt. She agrees Undyne took it too far but says she was reckless only because of her desperation to keep her promise. Several other monsters step in to expose several other humiliations Mettaton's done to other monsters, and Mad Mew Mew even says that Mettaton is trying to make the argument about him. Frisk steps in to ask Mad Mew Mew why she's still here if she cares about Undyne so much, prompting her to immediately stop arguing and dash to Undyne's Lab.

True Lab Arc[]

At the end of Part 56 and in Part 57, Mad Mew Mew fights the Memoryheads possessing a prototype of her body, and Mettaton comes in to destroy it, much to her ungratefulness. The Memoryheads then bombard him with memories and partially possess him. Frisk, Papyrus and Alphys hear her shouting from afar and then encounter her, and she explains the broken Mew Mew robot and complains about Mettaton interfering. Frisk, Papyrus and Alphys attempt to defend him and ask where he is, which she directs them to the next room after they explore.

After the Downward SPIRAL battle, Mad Mew Mew leaps from the ceiling and attempts to fight the Memoryheads, then Alphys tells her they've already been dealt with. Mettaton states what happened and Alphys tries to talk some sense into her, then Mad Mew Mew, Frisk, and Papyrus continue their search for Undyne.

In Part 59, Mad Mew Mew is seen trying to break down the door to Undyne. The Mechamalgamates appear and rush for the lures, crashing and forcing her to jump up. She berates them but notices the open door, and rushes through. She attempts to convince Undyne to live, until Frisk, Mettaton, Alphys and Papyrus come in and the latter two explain they knew Undyne's intentions and explain why they were against them. Mad Mew Mew adds that once you kill someone, there's no turning back and she couldn't follow through with killing Frisk. Mettaton apologizes for broadcasting Undyne's fragile state but she just blames herself for their flawed relationship, but Mad Mew Mew states she loved her training battles with Undyne. Undyne apologizes to the rest of the group and they explain they forgive her, and their plan to destroy the barrier. Mad Mew Mew offers to split Frisk and Chara when Mettaton directs a joke to Chara, though Undyne states she already knows about them. Sans then comes in to apologize and Mad Mew Mew to go away, but Undyne agrees to talk. When Frisk mentions Asriel when referring to Flowey, Mad Mew Mew explains why Flowey is Asriel, and later decides to keep the Mechamalgamates in check.

Trivia[]

  • As a whole, Mad Mew Mew's role much more significant than in the original game.
    • As Mad Dummy, they went from being a one-off miniboss in Waterfall to a recurring antagonist in Hotland and the CORE.
    • As Mad Mew Mew, she went from being a secret boss and occasional NPC exclusive to specific console ports, to a main boss and member of the main cast. Part 61 even demonstrates that she was instrumental in Flowey's plans.
  • Mad Mew Mew is a transgender woman. Unsubtly, she went from inhabiting a more “rough, edgy" body (potentially serving as a metaphor for an AMAB body) to a more feminine one, also choosing to use she/her pronouns instead of they/them upon obtaining her new body.
  • In comparison to the “human with some cat features" design both her UNDERTALE counterpart and typical depictions of anime catgirls have, Mad Mew Mew has a design more akin to that of an anthropmorphized cat, including a feline-like face and cat nose.
    • According to Dorked, this was the result of Undyne having a bias and wanting to make the body look more “monster-like”[2], resulting in her creating a more cat-like face for the Mew Mew body[3].
  • Mad Mew Mew's voiceblip is sourced from the "nononocat" video, while Mad Dummy's is the same audio but pitched down and slowed.
  • Mad Mew Mew's inclusion in Inverted Fate as we know it today can largely attributed to the earlier release of Prime Time Turnabout delaying production of the CORE arc to coincide with the release of the Nintendo Switch Edition of UNDERTALE, where her Undertale counterpart first debuted with her new body.
    • According to Dorked, Mad Dummy's character arc would have originally ended with Mad Dummy becoming so angry that they fused with their dummy body.
  • Prior to the release of Part 61, Dorked would often hint at an "elephant in the room" regarding Flowey's plans (specifically to split Chara from Frisk), becoming the subject of heavy speculation. This would later be revealed to be Mad Mew Mew herself, with how her ability to split amalgamated SOULs temporarily would make it easier for Flowey to achieve his goal.
    • The concept of Flowey permanently splitting Chara from Frisk (and returning them to physical form) was actually planned since early stages of Inverted Fate's development, with Mad Mew Mew's addition and powers allowing said concept to develop into its current form and provide better in-universe reasoning.
  • Mad Mew Mew's hair in their dummy form is in fact a Jojo Reference.
