Napstablook is Mettaton's cousin and sound-mixer on his shows and a supporting character in Inverted Fate.

Profile

Appearance

Napstablook is a large ghost monster with a traditional bedsheet appearance. They typically wear a set of headphones and are often seen with an uncertain look to themself. Their design is essentially unchanged from Undertale.

Personality

Thanks to Mettaton remaining in Napstablook's life, they're no longer the depressed ghost they were in canon. This Napstablook overall is a happier, friendlier ghost, albeit still shy, soft-spoken & insecure. They owe a lot of their newfound confidence not only to Mettaton but also to Asgore, who has been a consistent part of their life and a supportive friend.

Unlike many monsters, Napstablook does not resent humanity. In fact, the hostile mindset concerns them due to how it's negatively impacted their cousin and others like Captain Alphys and even Undyne. However, they're a bit shy about voicing these opinions.

Nonetheless, they are willing to speak their mind more openly than in canon, leaping to Frisk's defence on live TV and even questioning Undyne's own happiness.

History

While they are still shy, soft-spoken, and occasionally insecure, they’re a lot happier in this new timeline due to Mettaton remaining a part of their life and due to Asgore’s support.

They’re Mettaton’s sound mixer and occasional co-star. The spotlight’s helped a great deal with their exposure, and their CD’s have a bit of a following, but often times the pressures associated with stardom grow too much for the ghost, and they retreat to the Ruins for a breather.

They befriend Frisk fairly fast and remains one of their most avid supporters, despite the overall hostile atmosphere toward humans. In truth, they don’t like all the negativity, but they feel there’s little they can do about it.

Main Story

Ruins Arc

Napstablook first appeared in the Ruins, listening to music in the room where the Dummy usually resides. They were both surprised and nervous upon encountering Frisk. Noticing their low self-image, Frisk approached them and began humming along to their music. Surprised that the child was actually enjoying it, Napstablook turned the volume up. As Frisk continued to hum, monsters began to gather within the room to watch the show. During this time, Napstablook's fear evaporated as they bonded with Frisk.

Later Frisk finds Napstablook sleeping on a couch. Frisk offers to watch TV. They start watching one of MTT's shows and Blooky talks in an admiring way about Mettaton. He explains that MTT's an anti-human weapon, then he goes on to warn frisk about the state of monsters outside the ruins. He then notices Frisk's fear and comments on being a bad friend.

Snowdin Arc

During Mettaton's news cast, Napstablook is called on to defend the Human.

Waterfall Arc

Blooky cues in MTT on Frisk's presence in Waterfall, allowing him to break their fight against Bratty & Catty. Mettaton leads them to Blooky's house, where Blooky gives them a house tour. They then discuss Alphys after MTT returns. Blooky & MTT then take Frisk on a tour of Forgespring.

In Bonus 8, Napstablook sees Asgore expresses his remorse on the human he killed and how he's not comfortable with adopting Frisk due to spending so little time with them while spending more time with other monsters which include Papyrus but doesn't want to hurt their feelings to them and how Asgore will have to admit to the humans he killed a child. They comfort Asgore by saying how stressed they can also be when it comes to signing autographs and meeting other people at conventions and also just talking to him. Asgore thanks Napstablook for their company and decides to apologise to Toriel,before leaving though Napstablook doesn't go to the barrier where Mettaton has called every monster to go on his boardcast on TV, they would rather go to the barrier once it's destroyed.
