— Spamton, Part 59 Console

Spamton G. Spamton, better known as Spamton, is a sentient adware program who was given a robotic body by PAPYRUS. After Asriel Dreemurr warped the Underground, he led the other robots to form a robot uprising and take over Hotland.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Spamton resembles his DELTARUNE counterpart, with the pale skin, rosy cheeks, pointed nose, and puppet-like features. Unlike his Deltarune counterpart, however, he is a sapient AI within a robot body rather than a Darkner. He wears triangle shades similar to Mettaton, a black suit and a red bowtie, spiked epilets on his shoulders, and a long, red cape.

He is slightly taller than Deltarune Spamton due to having proper legs, but shorter than an Addison.

Personality[]

Spamton retains his charismatic, conman persona, complete with wacky text quirk with bracket-insertions. A key difference from his Deltarune counterpart is that he is already "free" thanks to the robot body that Papyrus provided. This lifts an immense burden from him, and he's generally motivated by a desire for money and fame due to the reprogramming that Spout gave his base AI after finding the disc in Waterfall's trash dump.

He lacks a SOUL, but at this point hasn't dwelt on the greater existential conundrums that brings.

He has no qualms about exploiting others' private information (such as Undyne's disfigurements, Papyrus's apparent crush on Mettaton, or Mettaton's past identity) for his own ends, though he is never shown revealing said information publicly. He is implied to be more empathetic than he initially seems, as one of his emails consists solely of recommending Undyne talk through her issues with a friend without any apparent references to products or services.

History[]

The Spamton AI was originally programmed by Gaster as a self-aware email client to antagonize humans on the surface as a petty prank for banishing monsters Underground. The Mage, concerned for how unruly the program could be, tricked Gaster into visiting the dump one day, pilfered the disc with the prototype disc, and abandoned it in the dump, where it remained until many years later, when Spout the Spider found and reprogrammed it to act as a persistent adware client.

He sent it to Papyrus, who then allowed it access to the True Lab's computer system, at which point it began spamming both Papyrus and Undyne's emails. Eventually, Undyne reached a breaking point and planned to delete the Spamton AI, but it was spared by Papyrus, who built it a body and granted it freedom.

Spamton would later relocate to Mettatown, where he dwells in a secret dumpster base, selling bootlegged merchandise and unstable wares. Mad Mew Mew purchased some of these wares to sabotage the vending machines in the CORE.

Main Story[]

Spamton's existence is first mentioned within the True Lab in part 59. Undyne describes his origins as a strangely self-aware email malware that infected the security terminal and was programmed by Spout the Spider. It kept using burner email accounts to get past Undyne's filters, and eventually she got fed up and threatened to delete it.

Spamton then contacted Papyrus, trying to strike a deal and pleading for mercy. He offered to leave Undyne alone if Papyrus built him a body so that he could be free. Papyrus obliged, and Spamton has since relocated to Mettatown, where he sells bootleg wares and is a general menace.

In null_3, while Frisk and Chara are reading a message on TV about a security breach happening in Hotland and MTT Resort being put on lockdown as a result, the message suddenly gets interrupted by Spamton, who claims that the MTT Resort is now under his management. Asriel then breaks the TV broadcasting the message shortly after.

In null_4, Frisk and Chara explore Hotland, with the area now being populated by various robots under the command of "LORD SPAMTON". With tacky Spamton-themed decorations littered around, the duo enters the MTT Resort and Spa, now named "Spamton's Pipis Palace". Afterwards, Spamton is seen using Mettaton's news set to make a "broadcast", introducing viewers to the "Spamton Body Pillow" before a confused Lilac enters the scene.

In null_5, Spamton tries pressuring Lilac to buy his "Specil Fun Pak", as well as take a look at her SOUL. Chara assumes the worst and confronts the conman with Frisk close behind. Spamton is both excited at the prospect of more human "customers", a chance to see more "HeartShapedObjects", and irritated at their interference. He blocks all entrances and ends up blocking the way out before calling in various robots to act as bodyguards, namely Robot 98, 100, and even Papybot at them. However, Chara is able to buy the robots their freedom using all the G, which made 1997. But when Spamton himself joins the fight and the duo are out of money, Lilac pays him $15 for the "Fun Pak". As he's never seen surface money before, it works, and Spamton lets the trio walk and grants them free access to the rest of the hotel, while allegedly promising Lilac a car when she's old enough to drive.

In null_7, Spamton's shadow is seen within on of the shops in the now desolate city, having followed the humans out of the Underground.

In Rift Part 1, Spamton is revealed to have witness Lilac's SOUL being stolen, and while overlooking her now empty body, he states nobody takes his customers, nor their "HeartShapedObjects", and jumps into the Rift to get revenge.

In Rift Part 3, he (literally) drops down to meet Frisk and Chara as they are leaving the now destroyed Rift Cathedral, explaining that he's come because Asriel stole his "first customer" and wants to help the humans. He shows "TheGoodz", being a cup of rainbow water from the Cathedral that can supposably revive fallen allies, and a Punch Card left by the Memoryheads, which proves vital later on when Chara needs to escape from the Pawn of Possessiveness. While the first gifts are for free, he tells them anything else Asriel leaves for them, he wants, before no-clipping through the walls.

In Rift Part 4, he shows up again with a cake made in his likeness and a "Spamflower Tea", made from the Angel's Castle's garden, and Chara "purchases" it with the Angel's Castle. He then throws in a "Complimentary HeartShapedObject" , which turns out to be a shield made in his likeness, rather than an actually SOUL. Chara realizes that Spamton's products helping in saving the world gives the salesman publicity, which he agrees. After Frisk states that his products helped last time, he proclaims that he's always looking out for little guys before no-clipping into the castles, where he is then seen cozying it up in his "new bachelor pad".

Trivia[]

  • Before the release of Deltarune Chapter 2, there were originally plans for shenanigans involving a "money-eating robot" to be mentioned during the True Lab Arc, but these concepts later evolved into Inverted Fate's own version of Spamton after its release.
  • The Spamton Body Pillow in Null 4 is a reference to its appearance and a winnable prize in Spamton's SWEEPSTAKES to celebrate the seventh anniversary of Undertale and first anniversary of Deltarune Chapter 2
  • In Null 4, when Spamton says "U'VE WAITED [42 days] TO SEE MY [Specil Debut]!". This is a reference to the release date of Null 1 (The beginning of the final arc) on September 17th 2022: 42 days as of the release of Null 4 at October 29th 2022
